Ross discusses Leibniz vs. Neoplatonism

For Leibniz, the trouble with the Neoplatonists was that their ignorance of mechanical science prevented them from grasping Plato’s insight that the whole physical realm depended on spirit. Instead, they were misled by a literal interpretation of his myths into superstitions about fantastic spiritual beings involved in the material world itself.
